HINWEIS
EXPERIMENTAL, ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT THIS ?

Continuing on the previous post, here is SuperSU v2.62 BETA, with automated boot image patching. It's been tested by myself on various Samsung's running anything from 4.3 to 5.1, and all of the recent Nexus devices on 6.0. Even on CM13. Other users have tested it with success on various other devices.

If you are coming from any SuperSU install in /system, you must re-flash the stock system partition contents prior to installing this.

If you are coming from a SuperSU 2.56 system-less install, you must re-flash the stock boot image prior to installing this.

If you are coming from a SuperSU 2.60 system-less install, or were not rooted at all, then you can just flash the ZIP without any special prior instructions.

If TWRP offers you to keep /system read-only, indeed keep it read-only.

If TWRP tells you SuperSU is not installed, and asks you to install it, do not do it, you will break things!

If on Android 6.0 or Samsung 5.1, the ZIP installer will install SuperSU in systemless mode and patch the boot image. The boot image patcher currently only supports gzip compressed ramdisks and the standard Android boot image format. Some devices do not use the standard format, and many custom kernels use a compression other than gzip. A backup is made (/data/stock_boot_<sha>.img.gz) of the original boot image before patching it.

Further implementation details (including an updated list of changes to the ramdisk) are explained in the installer script itself, as usual.

Some things of note with 2.62:

A poor man's overlay is used on /system/xbin. We are creating a copy of /system/xbin in /su/xbin_bind, adding a symlink to /su/bin/su there, then mounting the entire thing on top of the original /system/xbin. This is likely to fix some compatibility issues with some apps, without actually modifying /system. Removing /su/xbin_bind and rebooting will disable this feature, or "echo BINDSYSTEMXBIN=false>>/data/.supersu" in recovery root shell before a SuperSU ZIP flash.

If you have one of those devices that refuse to remount system r/w in Android such as the Nexus 6P, but you do want to do this, "echo FSTABSYSTEMRW=true>>/data/.supersu" in recovery root shell before a SuperSU ZIP flash will patch the boot image in such a way that remounting will work. This feature itself breaks OTA compatibility, regardless of if you end up writing to /system or not.

I think I found a bug with the systemless installer: if you have SuperSU Pro installed it ends up pushing the SuperSU 2.56 APK over top of it, which confuses a few things in /data/app/ until you uninstall/delete both, reboot, reinstall Pro from the Play Store and then sideload the extracted 2.56 APK.

Also, since I've been installing and uninstalling SuperSU so frequently to test things on Lollipop and Marshmallow, I made a little zip to help with uninstalling the old system-modifying version (Lollipop+). It properly restores all the original files the SuperSU installer backed up (so, OTA friendly!) and removes any files added by the installer/app. I figured other people might find it handy as well so it's attached below. Be aware, if you flashed SuperSU twice mistakenly, the SuperSU installer wasn't written to recognize that and so you've lost your originals; a system.img flash WILL be necessary in your case.

This should allow people to switch between the system-modifying and systemless versions more easily/readily, and hopefully improve people's ability to test, so I didn't see the harm in automating this portion. If @Chainfire disagrees then I'll remove it, of course.

Note, to completely remove all traces of the systemless version, all you need to do is uninstall SuperSU, delete /data/su.img and flash a different boot.img, which is pretty cool and easy so I felt no need to add support for that. Also, if you want TWRP to shut up about the system not being rooted, create /system/etc/.installed_su_daemon with a filemanager or with the command "touch /system/etc/.installed_su_daemon" from a root prompt. This doesn't appear to trip up SafetyNet at the moment either, so nothing to worry about but less nag until TWRP gets updated. Happy testing!

Für alle LPX13D Tester... :moustach:

Quick SuperSU fix for Nexus5/7 on LPX13D

Here are links to flashable boot.img's that fix SuperSU:

Nexus 5: http://de.samsung.com/de/news/read.aspx?pmguid=2484d1d9-9035-4f60-827f-8c4a36d8a734

Nexus 7: http://de.samsung.com/de/news/read.aspx?pmguid=2484d1d9-9035-4f60-827f-8c4a36d8a734

These do not switch your entire system to SELinux permissive mode like some other posted images do. Food for discussions, but I personally prefer it this way.

Of course, you still have to flash the SuperSU ZIP via TWRP, it is not included.

SuperSU: http://de.samsung.com/de/news/read.aspx?pmguid=2484d1d9-9035-4f60-827f-8c4a36d8a734

That's all I can do today. I will elaborate over the next few days.
